Environmental Health Department & Food Safety (EHD)

For restaurants, bars, and other food handling facilities, the EHD enforces their own construction standards.  Typically, the EHD must approve the construction drawings prior to approvals from the Building Department.


EHD stipulate some of the following variables:

  1. -Exhaust & compensating air unit (Hood & Make-up Air)

  2. -Plumbing fixtures (hand sinks, prep-sink, three compartment sinks, etc...)

  3. -Dry goods inventory and equipment storage

  4. -Hot water demand

  5. -Finish materials (walls, ceiling and floor finishing)



MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing)

We collaborate with our affiliated Engineers to design the most effective system given the physical or budgetary constraints.

Some MEP systems include:

  1. -Lighting Plans:

  2. -We design the lighting plan and specify the appropriate lighting fixtures and controls to achieve the lighting scheme that best market and showcase your environment.

  3. -Title 24 California Energy Standards.

  4. -Power Plan

  5. -Kitchen Air Handling:

  6. -Specification of exhaust hood and compensating air units.

  7. -Heating & Cooling

  8. -Plumbing Systems:

  9. -Waste systems including grease intercepter / traps.

  10. -Domestic hot and cold water demand.
